Women's college golf player of the week: Gina Kim, Duke

Gina Kim opened the ACC Championship at Sedgefield in Greensboro, North Carolina, with three rounds in the 60s. That helped the Duke sophomore secure medalist honors at 10 under, but also gave Duke a big boost toward the No. 1 seed on the match-play bracket. The conference introduced two rounds of match play to its league championship this year.

Kim came through again for the team over the next two days, first winning her match against Virginia’s Jennifer Cleary in the semifinals before securing a 3-and-2 over Florida State’s Beatrice Wallin to help Duke to a dominant 5-0 win.

Kim became the 14th Blue Devil to win an ACC individual crown, matching the lowest 54-hole score in Blue Devil ACC Championship history.

“I really stayed patient out there and that was key for me,” Kim said after her stroke-play win. “I made some really smart choices out there and I think that’s what helped me win. I had some luck too with it. I chipped in for birdie and I holed out for eagle from the bunker. I’m really grateful for everything that’s happened so far.”
