Golfers often remove long irons from their bags and replace them with hybrids because 2-irons, 3-irons and 4-irons are challenging to hit. With their wider soles, larger faces and low centers of gravity, hybrids make it a lot easier to hit shots high in the air and land balls softly on the green from well back in the fairway.
Some elite players who begrudgingly go with a hybrid might choose a compact option, but fairway wood-style hybrids make life a lot easier for most golfers. With the release of the 0211 hybrids, that is precisely the type of club PXG has tried to make.
With a large profile and a deep face, the club is designed to inspire confidence, even when players have plenty of loft looking up at them in the address position. The larger hitting area and thin HT1770 stainless steel face were designed to increase ball speed and expand the sweet spot. That helps golfers achieve more distance on well-struck shots and protects ball speed on shots hit toward the toe or heel.
While it is partially hidden under the matte black finish, the crown of the 0211 hybrids has a center section made from carbon fiber. It is nearly eight times less dense than the AM355 stainless steel used in the chassis. That creates discretionary weight, lowers the center of gravity and pushes more of the crown’s overall weight to the heel and toe areas to boost forgiveness.
PXG added a pair of rails to the bottom of the 0211 hybrids to help them glide over and through the turf more easily. That should be especially helpful for golfers who tend to hit the ground behind the ball before impact and lose speed heading into impact.
Inside the heads, PXG affixed a honeycomb-shaped thermoplastic elastomer piece to the sole. It soaks up excessive vibrations to improve sound and feel at impact.
Finally, because golfers need to hit their hybrids to precise distances, PXG added an adjustable hosel to each 0211, allowing players and fitters to increase or decrease the clubs’ loft by as many as 1.5 degrees.
