In photos: Champion and designer Tom Weiskopf through the years

Former British Open champion Tom Weiskopf was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this week and began his first chemotherapy treatment.

Weiskopf won the British Open in 1973, which would be his only major title. The star from Massillon, Ohio finished second four times at the Masters, including 1975, while also adding another runner-up showing at the PGA Championship.

He won 16 times on the PGA Tour, as many times as Jack Burke Jr.,  Ralph Guldahl and Mark O’Meara, and added two European Tour wins and four PGA Tour Champions victories.

Here are a few shots at Weiskopf, who evolved into one of the game’s most renowned golf course designers, and some of the courses he’s worked on. He has over 40 to his credit.
