While 2020 was forgettable for most of the world, Harold Varner III made the most of a trying year.

The 30-year-old was named Golfweek‘s “most fun” player on the PGA Tour in its “Fun Issue” this year and even got married in September despite the COVID-19 pandemic. On a more serious note, the product of East Carolina University was also one of the first players on Tour to speak out after the killing of George Floyd in June.

Varner is continuing the conversation in 2021, announcing Monday – Martin Luther King Jr. Day – his partnership with Martin Luther King III to launch the Harold Varner Sweepstakes to promote social justice and benefit the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy, which is “Continuing the unparalleled legacy of Dr. King by fostering a culture of nonviolence and active participation in our democracy.”

Other members of the golf world took to social media throughout the day to share their favorite quotes from Dr. King, who would have been 92 years old this year.
